1,4-Dioxane

1,4-dioxane is known as a byproduct that is inevitably generated during manufacturing certain kinds of surfactants. Therefore, very small amounts of 1,4-dioxane may be present as impurities in detergents, personal care products, and cosmetics that contain these surfactants.

In the production of such surfactants, we have improved the manufacturing process and implemented strict quality control starting from the selection process of raw materials up to the final production process of surfactants, which has led to the reduction of 1,4-dioxane. Also, in the production of products that use such surfactants, 1,4-dioxane in the products has been controlled to a sufficiently low level through careful selection of raw materials and quality control. Although exposure to high level of 1,4-dioxane is possibly carcinogenic to humans, we manage the levels of 1,4-dioxane in our products to be at or below the level that poses no risk to human health as determined by scientific agencies of regulatory authorities in countries and regions where we operate.

Kao complies with the laws and regulations of all countries and regions in which we operate. Additionally, we conduct rigorous safety assessments and perform a wide range of product-use tests based on the Kao Safety Standards* , so that you can use our products safely. We continuously explore new scientific findings relevant to the ingredients we use and review the safety of our in-market products. We are committed to continuing to develop our products for a better customer experience and increased product safety.
