Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Can I use a different form (not the official entry form) to apply?

A1. No. Please use the official entry form provided by Kao. Entries submitted using any other form will not be accepted.

Q2. Can I send my artwork created digitally?

A2. No. All submitted artwork must be hand-painted. Please note that works created digitally (including using digital tools/software) or generated using AI are not eligible for judging.

Q3. Can I apply by e-mail?

A3. No, we do not accept applications by e-mail. Please submit your entry using either of the following methods: uploading an image of your work or sending the original work.

Q4. Will submitted works be returned?

A4. No, the original artworks will not be returned. As stated in the Terms and Conditions, ownership of the artworks will belong to Kao.

Q5. Can I apply from outside Japan?

A5. Yes, you can. Please submit your entry by either of the following methods:

Fill in all fields within the bold-lined section of the designated “Entry Form,” attach it to the back of the artwork, and send it by post.

Q6. Where and how should I attach the entry form?

A6. Securely attach the entry form to the center of the back of your artwork in the same orientation as the artwork, using glue or tape.

Q7. Is it OK to fold my artwork for shipping purposes?

A7. No. Please send your artwork in a flat envelope, inserting cardboard or something firm to ensure it does not bend during shipping.

Q8. Is it necessary to fill in my e-mail address on the entry form?

A8. Yes, it is required, as we will contact you by email. Please note that applications with incomplete forms will not be considered.

Q9. Is it necessary to fill in “thoughts and wishes on the painting” on the entry form?

A9. Yes, please note that entries without this information will be disqualified from judging.

Q10. What does “Entry becomes a donation” mean?

A10. For each entry received, Kao will make a donation of 50 yen to the environmental protection organization chosen by the applicant, in support of its activities.

Q11. Will you issue a certificate of participation?

A11. After you submit your entry online, we will send a confirmation email to your registered email address with a download link for your certificate of participation.
If you submit your entry by post, please contact our office. We can issue a certificate of participation upon request.

Q12. What is the difference between ‘Individual entry’ and ’Group entry’?

A12. Group entry refers to artworks submitted collectively by a school or an art class you belong to. All other submissions are treated as individual entries.
Individual applicants may include multiple entries in one package (e.g., submissions by siblings or friends); however, each applicant may submit only one artwork.
