Development of User-Friendly Diapers for Adults (Relief)

Diaper Development

Excretion treatment is deeply related to human dignity and has a powerful influence on quality of life (QOL). Kao is studying excretion care and developing excretion care products so that elderly people can live comfortable and active lives.

Creating an environment that enables people troubled with incontinence to choose and use diapers as necessary with minimum hesitation is a major challenge in the field of excretion care. For example, for people who use underpants-shaped diapers for the first time, it is very important that they look natural and have a smooth silhouette.

Standard underpants-shaped diapers have multiple rubber threads on an outer material (non-woven fabric), which are expanded, fixed to the fabric, and then shrunk to gather the fabric and make it elastic. This, however, makes the unevenness in the gathering stands out. So to improve the silhouette of diapers when they are worn while allowing users to wear them like ordinary underpants without hesitation, Kao developed non-woven fabric that itself is elastic.

Enabling people to wear diapers without hesitation and increasing their willingness or opportunities to go out leads to improving their QOL.
We will continue to develop adult diapers that reduce the mental and physical stress on users of diapers and their carers so everyone can live their lives in comfort and in ways they like.

The silhouette of slacks worn over a standard underpants-shaped diaper whose outer material is of the rubber thread type is compared against the silhouette of slacks worn over Relief Marude Shitagi, whose outer material is of an elastic sheet type that does not use rubber threads. Relief Marude Shitagi does not make the unevenness of the diaper stand out when slacks are worn over it.
