Super-absorbent Polymers

Super-absorbent polymers are unique materials that can absorb 100 to 1,000 times their own weight in water and retain it with almost no leakage, even when compressed. We were among the first companies to appreciate such properties and launch R&D studies focused on the use of these polymers as materials for feminine hygiene products. We developed a manufacturing process using reversed-phase suspension polymerization that carefully controls the crosslinking structure, and we were the first company in the world to launch sanitary napkins using super-absorbent polymers. Subsequently, we made dramatic improvements in the material’s absorbency and applied it to the different absorption requirements of disposable diapers.
