In one such initiative, Kao has been working with residents of local communities to collect used refill packs and recycle them into polymers, with the vision of utilizing these packs to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle and establish innovatively minded communities.

Kao is committed to addressing social issues associated with the environment and to empowering and supporting those who are engaged in environmental conservation.

  • * 1 Social implementation
Implementation of community-based, socially responsible activities, and utilizing results of scientific research.
  • * 2 RecyCreation
It is a term coined by Kao to denote upcycling through which more enjoyable and improved products are developed and resulting in new value creation, rather than recycling materials for the purpose of reproducing the same types of materials. The concept of this initiative is "Throwing it away after use. We want to change this common practice."

Background

Kao Corporation released the "Kao Environmental Statement" in 2009 in which the company states its commitment to reduce its environmental impact at every level of business activities, to promote environmental conservation, and to build a sustainable society. In reducing the environmental footprint caused by product packaging, Kao takes the "4R approach," with "reduce" as its base principle, complemented by the increased use of "renewable" raw materials, and the promotion of "reuse" and "recycle."
Research began at Kao in 2015 with the objective of establishing a new resource circulation system for packaging. Since 2016, the company has been conducting several community-based projects to promote the social implementation of this initiative, hoping that throwing it away after use and we want to change this common practice.
In these projects, Kao works with residents of local communities to collect used refill packs of detergent, shampoo, etc., and collaborates with partner companies to recycle them into polymers based on the company's vision to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle and establish innovatively minded communities.
