Kao Receives from JCIA Both First Prize in Safety Award and RC Jury’s Special Award for Its Chemicals Management Initiatives

Kao is engaged in Responsible Care (RC) activities, which are voluntary initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental friendliness, health and safety throughout the life cycle of products (from the development and manufacture to use, consumption, recycling and disposal), disclosing the results of such activities and engaged in dialogue with society.

Particularly in the field of chemical and product safety, we have been striving to enhance our safety measures based on risk assessments on sites where chemicals are handled, with the goal of realizing a sustainable society and increasing our corporate value.

One primary purpose is to make sure that community members can live with peace of mind. Towards this objective, we work in cooperation with municipalities and other relevant parties to maintain communication with local communities.

As a result, Kao received both the First Prize in the 48th Safety Award and the RC Jury’s Special Award in the 18th Responsible Care Award from the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) in May.

At the award ceremony

The First Prize in the Safety Award is a mark of honor for a business site that implements excellent safety activities and sets a good practice model for others to follow. Our Toyohashi Plant was highly evaluated for the activities it had carried out in close cooperation with partner companies.

The Responsible Care Award is given to business sites, departments, and individuals who have achieved excellent results or contributed to the further evolution or expansion of Responsible Care activities. Particularly, our Wakayama Plant, located adjacent to an urban area, was highly recognized for its efforts to establish a close cooperation system with the local administrative authorities and community with a view to strengthening communication with them in case of a fire or other emergency and minimizing risks in the event of a chemical leak. Kao has won the Responsible Care Award for the second consecutive year.
