Kao Selected Grand Prize Company for the Corporate Governance of the Year Prize

Kao Corporation was selected to receive the Grand Prize Company for the Corporate Governance of the Year* Prize, conferred by the Japan Association of Corporate Directors (JACD, Chairman: Yoshihiko Miyauchi). Last year, Kao was chosen as a Winner Company for the same award.

Since 2015, the prize has honored companies that have achieved and maintained mid- to long-term profitability by implementing good corporate governance.

According to JACD, Kao was selected to receive the award of Grand Prize Company for the following reasons: Kao has engaged in governance at an early stage and maintained its engagement. In terms of defense, it has been rigorous in implementing a disciplined stance throughout its organization, including at the board level and focused on internal control activities. In terms of offense, President Michitaka Sawada describes the Board of Directors as a forum for making dreams come true, and says he enjoys discussions with outside directors. This is an admirable example of a functioning Board, and indicative of a high level of attainment. It is a Japanese industry leader in governance and a model for other companies.

Kao will continue to incorporate into corporate governance, the "innovation" element of its corporate philosophy, "The Kao Way." The company is committed to further improving corporate governance and continuing to increase its corporate value.
