Kao makes a new investment in its chemical business

-A manufacturing facility for floral-family aroma chemicals (HCA), will be newly established in the Philippines-

Kao will build a manufacturing facility for HCA* at Pilipinas Kao Inc., as a new investment in its chemical business.

Pilipinas Kao Inc. has been producing natural alcohols since 1979. The adjacent new HCA facility has a capacity of 5,000mt/year and will cover all needs in Asia. The facility will be operational in the second half of 2018.

  • * HCA (Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde)
HCA is an important aroma chemical in the jasmine floral family and is widely used for fabric and home care products such as detergents, fabric softeners and household cleaners, and personal care products such as soap and body cleansers.

Background of the investment

Within its chemical business unit, Kao produces fragrances from natural alcohols. This new investment, when combined with current production of HCA at Kao Spain, will make Kao's HCA production volume the largest in the world.
Recently, market needs for consumer goods fragrances in Asia are increasing, and consumers appreciate aroma chemicals in the floral family that contribute to a feeling of flowery cleanliness. The market for HCA is growing in accordance with these trends.
In order to expand the business in the growing fragrance market in Asia, Kao will establish HCA production in site of alcohol plant in Pilipinas Kao Inc., and will respond to HCA market growth in Asia.
