Materials Informatics
To continue to provide new value for lifestyles and environment-related technologies, Kao is working to transition from conventional research based on trial-and-error experiments to data-driven research based on data and artificial intelligence (AI).
This involves using materials informatics, a field of data science focused on ingredients and materials, to develop high-activity catalysts and propose optimal combinations of surfactants that deliver high washing performance. Previously, we have accumulated data from many years of research in a wide variety of fields ranging from development of surfactants and other functional materials to technology development for drugs for industrial use or laundry detergents. Our data scientists take advantage of this data to develop products and services, which helps to improve customers’ daily lives and conserve the environment.
The field of data science is characterized by rapid technological innovation. We conduct joint research with universities and other companies to keep pace with the latest technologies and build opportunities for discussions from various perspectives. We also provide our own data science training programs in the drive to promote in-house education, accelerating the shift to data-driven research.
