Kao employees celebrate the 30th anniversary of Goldwell’s acquisition with ceremony

30 years ago, the Kao Group laid the foundation for its global expansion and entering the salon business with the acquisition of Darmstadt based Goldwell GmbH. Today, the Kao Salon Division, with its other brands KMS and Oribe, has risen to a strong number 4 in the salon industry worldwide. The Darmstadt site is not only home to the global and German salon business, the production, but also to the Group’s global hair research center. Reason enough for the Kao management to celebrate this anniversary on April 30th at the Darmstadt company site with a ceremony under the motto “30 beautiful years”.

Among the keynote speakers were not only Cory Couts, President of the Global Salon Business, but also Michitaka Sawada, CEO of the Kao Group, as well as Lord Mayor of Darmstadt Jochen Partsch, Japanese Consul General Setsuko Kawahara, and Dr. Jürgen Frei, Deputy Chairman of the Hans Erich and Marie Elfriede Dotter Foundation. They all emphasized the success of the acquisition and the close relationship between Kao and the city of Darmstadt. CEO Michitaka Sawada underlined the importance of the salon business for the beauty division of the Kao Group and praised the successful research work being done at the global hair research laboratory in Darmstadt. The clear future goal for the salon business is to drive global expansion and thus become the number 3 worldwide.

The ceremonial celebration culminated in the planting of a Japanese cherry tree in front of the building by Cory Couts and Michitaka Sawada.
