Dave Muenz, Senior Vice President ESG, talks about Kao’s commitment to walking the right path and creating a more sustainable world.
Being a beauty company in EMEA, our ESG Mission of making life beautiful is especially close to our hearts. This starts with the passion to create products that will make people not only look more beautiful but give them confidence and self-esteem. It continues with the care we put into the development of our formulas and the manufacturing of our products to ensure we deliver products of the highest quality that are safe to use for both the consumer and the environment.
This starts with the way we select and source our raw materials and continues with how we process them in a way that is energy and water usage efficient while creating zero waste during production in our plants.
When transporting our products to our customers, we are reducing our CO2 emissions by downsizing packaging, as well as by using ship and rail transport.
We always consider how consumers are using our products which is why we are concerned with the full lifecycle of those products considering how we can reduce our environmental impact. To reduce waste, we are introducing packaging made of recycled plastic and FSC certified paper.

The ESG strategy of Kao Salon Division builds on the three pillars “Products”, “Partners” and “People”, following our overall mission to make life beautiful for salons, stylists and their clients. Step-by-step we are making sustainability an integral part of our salon partnership concept.
Within the Kao Consumer Division we’re always exploring ways to make our products and our packaging more sustainable whilst never compromising on safety or quality. For us quality and sustainability go hand in hand.
