Bangkok, March 2023 - B.Grimm PCL (BGRIM) and Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd. concluded an accord to jointly promote renewable and environmentally-friendly energy. Mr. Nopadej Karnasuta, Senior Executive Vice President - Investment, Innovation and Sustainability at BGRIM, and Mr. Yuji Shimizu, President of Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd. have inked the contract for Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) that serves as a vehicle for the collaboration. The REC signing was witnessed by Ms. Oratai Suwanwilaikul, First Senior Vice President - Energy Solution Investment, Innovation and Sustainability at BGRIM, Mr. Tadanobu Asada, Vice President Executive Officer, Supply Chain & Factory Manager at Kao, and senior executives of the two companies in a ceremony held at BGRIM's head office, Bangkok.

Mr. Nopadej said: "BGRIM, as a world-class energy producer, is very pleased in promoting renewable energy, providing Kao with clean, sustainable and highly stable power supplies as part of our endeavour to support our industrial customers in their transition to the low-carbon future." The electric power supplies under the REC come from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass, which have been recognised with the International REC Standard (I-REC). That is in line with BGRIM's 'GreenLeap - Global and Green' strategy announced in early 2023 to focus on a commitment to deliver the best to clients, business partners, society, nation and environment with the development of clean, sustainable and safe energy to minimise greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emissions. This is also aligned with BGRIM's vision of 'Empowering the World Compassionately' that the company has always adhered to, Mr. Nopadej added.

Mr. Shimizu said: "Kao is a producer of consumer goods that enhance the quality of life and being a part of the daily life of the Thai society. Kao has pursued sustainability through the ESG {environmental, social and governance} or Kirei Lifestyle Plan, which is not just about the quality that we intend to deliver to consumers through products, but conducting our business by always paying attention to economic, social and environmental aspects to reduce the impact on the wider society. According to Mr. Shimizu, Kao plants have adopted energy management in various aspects to reduce CO2 emissions such as,

• Electric power: By installing solar panels capable of producing more than 900 MWh per year; replaced all light bulbs with LED types; and converting the air conditioning system to an inverter type for the entire plants. All together these undertakings saved more than 369,324 kWh last year.
• Cutback in water and natural gas use: By setting up a system to bring back the condensate water disposed from the heat transfer process to increase the feed water temperature before entering the boiler; directing hot air released from the cooling process in the production process to produce medium pressure steam - resulting in reducing the use of natural gas required to produce steam.
• Procuring and using high-efficient machinery in the production to save energy

The REC contract we entered with BGRIM will play an important role in supporting our climate agenda and in the development of renewable energy in Thailand. This is in tune with Kao's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040 and carbon negative by 2050," he noted.
