Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is reinforcing the celebration of 60 years of its commitment to social responsibility by launching a nationwide initiative to donate "Educational Table Sets" to Border Patrol Police schools. Crafted from post-consumer recycled plastic, these table sets aim to promote both environmental awareness and educational opportunities for Thai youth. Mr. Akira Nishimaki, President of Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated: "This initiative is part of Kao's effort to give back to society on the occasion of our 60th anniversary. Under the concept of 'Kao 60th Anniversary: Contributing Hygiene for Saving Future Smiles,' we have created 'Educational Table Sets' made from upcycled plastic waste, transformed into functional furniture. These sets will serve as central learning spaces in school libraries. More than just educational furniture, this project reflects the circular economy in action aiming to inspire students to recognize the value of plastic waste through proper waste segregation, thus fostering behavioral change from a young age. Kao is committed to delivering these table sets to all 222 Border Patrol Police schools nationwide."

Innovative Recycling for Sustainable Learning

The "Educational Table Sets" is thoughtfully designed and crafted from various recycled materials, primarily using post-consumer recycled plastic with a strong focus on sustainability and durability. The table frame is made from composite synthetic wood – an eco-friendly blend of recycled plastic and wood scraps – offering strength and resilience. Its tabletop features used plastic bottle caps, covered with a clear acrylic sheet. Each set includes four cushions made from upcycled fabric, sourced from recycled plastic bottles. In total, each table measuring 1x1 meter and 30 centimeters in height repurposes approximately 1,600 plastic bottles.
This initiative is a collaboration between Kao and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), a leading player in the chemical industry and a strong advocate of recycling and upcycling. Sharing a common goal of promoting education and instilling environmental awareness, the two companies developed this upcycled table set to be both functional and visually appealing – ideal for use by children in school libraries.
In addition to its sustainable construction, the table features transparent tabletops allowing interchangeable educational materials underneath – offering flexible and modern content delivery. Furthermore, the design also input artwork created by Thai youth who received awards in Kao International Environment Painting Contest for Children. These visuals reflect young minds through imaginative and environmentally conscious visuals.

Inspiring the Next Generation

This initiative goes beyond supporting education in remote areas. It is designed to ignite awareness and instill environmental responsibility through hands-on learning tools. Kao believes that youth should be equipped not only with knowledge but also with the inspiration to see the hidden value in discarded materials. The project also aligns with Kao's long-term sustainability vision, the Kirei Lifestyle Plan, which aims to create a cleaner and more beautiful world.
