Even with an alcohol-free label, I see "xxx alcohol" marked under the list of ingredients. Does the product contain alcohol?

Alcohol used in skincare products is an ingredient known as ethyl alcohol (ethanol). It is the same alcohol that is found in liquor. However, in chemistry, alcohol can be divided into numerous types. For example, methyl alcohol (methanol), a raw chemical ingredient, and stearyl alcohol are both found in the formulation of skincare products.

Even if they are classified as alcohol, these compounds are made up of different ingredients as ethyl alcohol (ethanol). Therefore, even if the ingredient “xxx alcohol” is found in skincare product, it could still be alcohol-free (not formulated with ethanol).
