Kao is raising environmental conservation awareness by assisting the establishment of foundations promoting efforts to protect and nurture greenery in communities both inside and outside Japan. We are looking to support these efforts from various angles.
Contact with nature offers peace of mind and enriches a child's development. Since 2000, Kao has been promoting an original Kao Creating Forests for Everyone program together with the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure.
In 2011, the program went through a renewal and has branched out into two main fields. The first, Creating Forests, is for groups that protect and nurture greenery, and the second, Environmental Education Activities, is for groups that facilitate interactions with nature for children. Each year, about 20 organizations are selected to receive assistance from Kao over a period of three years. As of March 2018, we have supported 463 organizations.
Because the results of forest creation activities cannot be seen in a short period of time, we focus on organizations' long-term goals while providing support for 3 years. It is our intention that their activities can be continued even after our assistance ends. These efforts were recognized in Japan in 2015 when Kao received the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award for Contributions Made Towards Promoting Urban Greenery.

Since 2012, to combat the issues of deforestation and soil deterioration in Northern Thailand, Kao has been working with the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) to implement the FURUSATO Environmental Conservation Project.
Government officials and Thai Kao Group staff members hosted a reforestation event for the local community and neighborhood schoolchildren. By the end of 2016, over five years of forest restoration and protection activities had resulted in 42,500 trees being planted over 35 hectares of land.
This program has helped raise environmental awareness within the local community, inspiring community-led forest management and infrastructure development.
