Jakarta, 22 April 2022 – Kao Indonesia together with the Indonesia Ministry of Health held health and environmental education through the #AkudanKaoPeduliBumi webinar on Friday, 22 April 2022, which coincided with the commemoration of Earth Day 2022. Held virtually and attended by dr. Anas Ma'ruf, MKM - Director of Environmental Health, Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health; Wisik Restu - Senior Manager Corporate Communications PT Kao Indonesia; Usman Firdaus - Environmental Activist and Founder of the MAPECI Community (Ciliwung Concerned Society) who was the spoke person in this activity. This #AkudanKaoPeduliBumi is carried out as a synergic collaboration between Kao Indonesia and Indonesia Ministry of Health to increase public awareness regarding the importance of caring for the cleanliness of the environment and the earth which has an impact on personal health in the form of educational webinar to the community as well as an effort to support the Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (GERMAS) / Healthy Living Community Movement program.

Kao Indonesia has an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Strategy which is locally implemented under the umbrella theme of Caring Innovation. This is the basis for all innovations made by Kao Indonesia in products and services which are always based on concern for improving consumers' quality of life. Actively and sustainably, Kao Indonesia strives to continue to make social contributions through education that focuses on sustainable health and the environment promotions. Of course, this can be done with support from the government side and collaboration with community-based communities.

Wisik Restu, Sr. Manager of Corporate Communications of Kao Indonesia said "Kao Indonesia as a producer of daily necessities is committed to continuously contribute significantly to improve the quality of life of the Indonesian people through various health and environmental promotion educational activities. One of them is through the #AkudanKaoPeduliBumi sharing session which aims to invite the community to start taking real action on environmental health and cleanliness starting from oneself, from now on and in everyday life. Kao Indonesia also always pays attention to environmental impacts in all business activities from upstream to downstream and also directs education to the community. Of course, this is a learning thing that we will continue to do and develop in the future."

With the support of Indonesia Ministry of Health, this activity is carried out in line with the main goals of the Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (GERMAS) with the hope that all Indonesian people can change their habits for a healthier and cleaner life, one of which can be started by maintaining environmental health through Total Sanitation Based Community (STBM) issued by the government to be a practical guide in the community.

dr. Anas Ma'ruf, MKM, Director of Environmental Health, Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health said "We appreciate Kao Indonesia's initiative which has made a real contribution to improve people's quality of life, especially environmental health promotion that directly involves the community. Community empowerment itself is very important in health development, where community behavior is one of the main and key factors to improve health and environmental problems. The clean water and sanitation program is carried out through the Community Based Total Sanitation (STBM) approach which is carried out as an effective approach to be able to educate about this. Of course, with the collaboration and Pentahelix partnership from the Government, Private Sector, Community, and Community, it can be our hope in realizing the Healthy Living Community Movement."

The collaboration of all parties, including community leaders, activists and the environmental community is no less important in the success of the five pillars of STBM, because it is the activists and the community who are directly involved and in the midst of the society. One of them is the Masyarakat Peduli Ciliwung (MATPECI) chaired by Usman Firdaus. MATPECI focuses on the cleanliness of the Ciliwung river, which is one of the most important rivers in the Pasundan area and crosses the capital city of Jakarta. All activities carried out by MATPECI are very active, community-based and involve micro-communities such as youth organizations, RT/RW, Posyandu, and PKK.

"The activities carried out by the Ciliwung Caring Community are always based on volunteers, youth organizations and the community. We carry out various activities along the Ciliwung river, in particular, such as rigging activities, cleaning riverbanks, planting trees and distributing fish seeds. We are also actively developing Eco-edutourism activities to increase public awareness and love for the environment, especially in the Ciliwung river which plays an important role in preventing flood. Therefore, I am happy and hope to continue to collaborate with various parties related to the promotion of environmental health. I also invite people to start caring for the environment from simple things like sorting garbage from home, not throwing garbage into rivers, and not destroying trees." said Usman Firdaus, Environmental Activist and Founder of the MAPECI Community.

#AkudanKaoPeduliBumi activity, which coincides with Earth Day in 2022, can be our momentum together to start taking real actions to care for the earth in our daily lives. Hopefully it can provide the same inspiration and understanding as well as increase sustainable collaboration from various parties in carrying out community-based environmental health promotion.

In 2022, Kao Indonesia will also continue education on environmental health promotion which will be carried out by targeting a target of 15,000 elementary and junior high school students in 5 major cities in Indonesia as well as inviting and socializing the 13th International Environmental Painting Competition with the theme "Together, Let's Make Our Environment Sustainable." By focusing on educating the younger generation about environmental health promotion, we hope that children as the nation's next generation can become agents of change to be able to have a good influence on the people around them to start taking real action on health and the environment.
