Kao Indonesia and Indonesia Ministry of Health Conducts Activity of Anak KAO (Kreatif Aktif Optimis)

A Synergistic Collaboration between Health Ministry and Kao Indonesia to maximize the Implementation of 'Upaya Kesehatan Sekolah' and cultivating 'Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat' for students

Jakarta, November 4th 2021 - Kao Indonesia in collaboration with Indonesia Ministry of Health conducts education related to Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat PHBS – (Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Behavior) and Health Protocols to support Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (GERMAS) and Upaya Kesehatan Sekolah (UKS) as government campaign through Anak KAO (Kreatif-Creative, Aktif-Active, Optimis-Optimistic) Program. The endorsement from Ministry of Health has started with the signing of collaboration agreement virtually by drg. Oscar Primadi, MPH as General Secretary of Ministry of Health at that time and Masahide Nishida as President Director of PT Kao Indonesia. This activity focuses on targeting Elementary Schools in the Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok Bekasi area first, with range age of 6 -12 years, starting on October 25, 2021 until November 2021.

Anak KAO (Creative, Active, Optimistic) 2021 aims to educate 3.000 Elementary School students, and continuously encourage students to be more aware the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene through PHBS and implement health protocols both at home and school area. Anak KAO Program is expected to be part of the adaptation to a new way of life and to motivate a positive attitude and enthusiasm in learning which is packed in Self Esteem theme. Anak KAO Program is projected to be able to take a role in today's health challenging situation which greatly affects the activities of students, especially with the resumption of Pembelajaran Tatap Muka Terbatas (PTMT) – face-to-face learning activities in schools.

We set the education for PHBS as well as increase motivation in learning for student as priority because it becomes an important basic knowledge, along with the start of face-to-face learning activities by the government."

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health's Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat program, Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat program and referring to health protocols that are relevant to the current situation, the implementation of Anak KAO Program is carried out hybrid offline and online following each school's schedule with educational materials including daily hygiene guidelines at home and school, health protocols, and motivation in learning. On November 4th, 2021, Health Promotion and Community Development Director Ministry of Health, dr. Imran Agus Nurali, Sp.KO together with Kao Indonesia were attend to Ciputat VI Elementary School, South Tangerang, Banten to directly observe and witness the provision of health facility support that was handed over by PT Kao Indonesia to school representatives during the implementation of the Anak KAO Program.

Anak KAO Program – Creative, Active, Optimistic, is an activity for implementing UKS and cultivating GERMAS (Gerakan Hidup Besih dan Sehat) which encourages the realization of clean and healthy living behaviors in school area. This activity is designed to invite students and also the school community such as UKS cadres and coaches, to know the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and playing a role in preventing the spread of Covid-19, and being able to focus on the positive things that students have so that participating children can become agents of change for the wider environment such as families and communities." explain dr. This is a manifestation of real implementation of the Partnership in Penta Helix, namely Government Elements, Universities, Business / Private Companies, Civil Society and Mass Media.

Kao Indonesia believes that children are potential agents of change to create a better community life and a healthier earth in a sustainable manner. Based on these values, the Anak KAO program provides knowledge on personal hygiene and how to implement health protocols both at home and at school:

  1. Take a shower with body foam.
  2. 6 steps of Cuci Tangan Pakai Sabun (CTPS) – Washing Hand with Soap properly and correctly.
  3. Brush your teeth in the morning and at night.
  4. Eat healthy according to Pedoman Gizi Seimbang – balanced Nutrition Guide.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and preservation of the surrounding environment.
  6. Health protocol at school and when leaving the house.
  7. Keeping clothes clean as objects that protect the body.
  8. Free cigarette smoke, eradicate mosquito larvae, and exercise regularly.

Data compiled by the Covid-19 Handling Task Force as of July 2021, shows that 116,183 elementary school-aged children 7-12 years old are infected with the Covid-19 virus. The number becomes a special concern to implement personal hygiene education andpositive self-motivation that should be carried out as soon as possible. Healthy children and a healthy school environment are the main points for the restoration of the teaching and learning process in schools. Seeing this, it is hoped that with the implementation of the Anak KAO program, Kao Indonesia can also contribute to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in school-age children during face-to-face learning activity.
