Merries Launches "Merries Senyumkan Lingkungan" Program through Recycle the Used Baby Diapers for Future Environment

Jakarta, November 15 2019 – Kao Indonesia, a Consumer Goods company from Japan, with one of its prominent brands Merries strategically collaborated with the West Jakarta Administration City Government and Waste Management Technology Company, to carry out a Movement to Process Used Baby Diapers for the Future of the Environment, by inviting and encouraging 1,000 mothers at 28 posyandu (integrated health post) in the West Jakarta area.

Currently, baby diapers is one of the main needs of mothers for their baby, so choosing the right baby diapers for baby is very important. But in Indonesia, especially in some areas there are still many people who throws used baby diapers into the rivers, which not only have the potential to pollute the environment, but also have a negative impact on health.

This is the background of Merries' initiative as the only one baby diaper in Indonesia that has been clinically tested by the Indonesian Association of Skin and Gender Specialists (PERDOSKI) to initiate the "Merries Senyumkan Lingkungan" program to educate and encourage the public, especially mothers, to dispose of used baby diapers in the right place and carry out Used Baby Diapers Recycling Movement for Future Environment. As the main concrete action, Merries collects used baby diapers in several areas in West Jakarta to be recycled into something more useful. Used baby diapers will later become fiber and oil.

In her opening speech, Mrs. Inad Luciawaty, wife of the Mayor of West Jakarta and Chairman of the West Jakarta Administrative City PKK Movers Team, emphasize the importance of this initiative, "Waste is one of the main social and health problems in metropolitan cities in Indonesia. Ideally, social initiative programs related to environmental health and hygiene issues must be from upstream to downstream, start from the integrated and continuous education to mothers to technology for tackling the waste, so the impact of social action is more pronounced".

Mrs. Susilowati, VP of Marketing, Kao Indonesia, said "Today's activity is a real action of our commitment, Kao Indonesia to continuously contribute the positive impact for the environment by reducing waste of used baby diapers. With integrated initiatives and continous collaboration with stakeholders, we hope to continuously improve the qualit life of the community while at the same time contribute to a sustainable society and environment"

Kao Indonesia collaborate with Waste Management Technology Company to process used baby diapers into oil to re-operate the used baby diaper recycle machine and fibers obtained are processed into brickwork for construction materials and also pots for plants, so this social action program becomes a full circle by providing valuable benefits to the community and the environment.
