After surveying Japan's top 500 listed companies by FTSE Japan Index on the climate change strategies and greenhouse gases emission, Kao recognized for climate change transparency with CDP leadership position (CDLI; Climate Disclosure Leadership Index) at the CDP 2015 Japan briefing held on November 4th in Tokyo.
Headquartered in London, CDP is a global NPO representing 822 investors with combined assets of 95 trillion US dollars. CDP maintains the largest collection of primary climate change, water and forest risk commodities information and puts these insights at the heart of strategic business, investment and policy decisions.
Kao has responded to the CDP questionnaire since distribution to corporations began in 2003. Kao has selected climate change transparency with CDP leadership position (CDLI) for the 7 consecutive times.
This selection was based on the Kao Group's environmental activities, which transcended Japan's borders, extending into the international area, Kao's approach toward disclosing information to stakeholders, and other relevant aspects.
In support of the Kao Environmental Statement announced 2009, Kao has targeted a 35 percent reduction in CO2 emissions from consumer products across product lifecycle (per unit sales in Japan), relative to FY2005, as one of its 2020 medium-term objectives. As a member of the CDP Supply Chain Program since 2009, Kao aims to work with suppliers as business partners to deepen understanding of the risks and opportunities posed by climate change, proactively decreasing CO2 emissions in the lifecycle of materials and ensuring that all business activities follow due consideration for the environment and society.
