The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved Kao Group's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target by 2030. The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature. It assesses and approves whether the targets adopted by companies are "science-based", or whether they are in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep global temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.
Kao announced its ESG strategy the Kirei Lifestyle Plan on 22 April, which consists of the Vision, three Commitments and 19 Kao Actions which it will strive for by 2030. The science-based target by 2030 which was set for its Action of Decarbonization was validated and approved by SBTi.
Reduce absolute scope 1*1 , 2*2 , 3*3 CO2 emissions 22% by 2030 from a 2017 base year.
