Kao Recognized as Supplier Engagement Leader by CDP for the Second Consecutive Year

Kao Corporation has been recognized, for the second consecutive year, as a Supplier Engagement leader for its initiatives in reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change across its supply chain by CDP, an international non-profit organization that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse emissions.

20190212-001-01

CDP rated over 3,300 companies worldwide, and assessed their supply chain engagement strategy, including carbon emission and climate-related risk reduction strategies across their supply chain. The evaluation was started in 2017, and CDP named 128 companies on its third annual Supplier Engagement leader board this year. Kao is one of 15 Japanese enterprises listed on the board.

Kao released the Kao Environmental Statement in 2009 and announced a 35% carbon emission reduction across the product lifecycle compared to that of 2005, as one of its 2020 medium-term plan goals. By setting climate change countermeasures as one of the main themes in its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) activities, Kao is promoting the activities for enrichment of people's daily life with zero environmental impact.

With the aim of achieving a sustainable society, Kao, together with its suppliers, will continue to deepen its understanding of climate change and risks and opportunities regarding water and forests to reduce carbon emissions across the product lifecycle. Moreover, through more extensive cooperation in environmental activities throughout society, Kao Group will continue to contribute to social sustainability.

CDP

CDP is an international non-profit charity based in the UK that creates engagement on environmental issues such as climate change. It operates a global disclosure system for major companies and cities around the world to release how they take action on climate change and manage water resources. It then surveys and evaluates the companies and cities with the support of institutional investors, and is one of the most trusted assessment organizations among investors.
