Kao (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was established in Petaling Jaya on 20th March 1973 as the producer of a range of shampoo products initially and later on, extended to body shampoo and sanitary napkins. On 2 January 1980, Kao Trading (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kao (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and became the marketing arm for the entire range of Kao products in Malaysia.
In April 2002, Kao (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd ceased its manufacturing activity located at Pandamaran, Pelabuhan Kelang, Selangor Darul Ehsan and took over the marketing and distribution of Kao products from Kao (Trading) Sdn Bhd.
The three shareholders of Kao (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd are Kao Corporation of Japan, Boustead Holdings Bhd and FELDA Holdings Bhd.
