Kao to Launch Sofina Beauté Day Protector

A Kao survey revealed increased awareness that UV rays, one of the external stimuli during the daytime, are related to reduced skin firmness and elasticity. This kind of awareness is especially strong among women in their 30s and 40s. Moreover, another Kao survey also revealed that many women noticed that their skin had been damaged by various external stimuli, including UV rays.
Among UV rays, UV-A, with a longer wavelength and greater transmittance, is more likely to reach the ground and penetrate a deeper layer of the skin. As older skin tends to be more susceptible to external stimuli, it is important to maintain the skin's resistance to them.
In 1988, Kao Sofina pioneered a proposal for daily skin care to protect UV rays with use of a moisturizer in the morning. It will launch Sofina Beauté Day Protector, a beautifying moisturizer for daytime use, for daily aging skin care. Employing Kao's innovative UV-barrier technology "ADVAN" to protect a deeper layer of skin from damage, the new product blocks UV-A which leads to reduced firmness and elasticity. Moreover it protects the skin from dryness by filling in spaces between the corneum cells with "Barrier Cermide S*2," and maintaining the skin's resistance to external stimuli. Applying this moisturizer after lotion in the morning provides both skin care and UV care effects at the same time, and protects the skin against external stimuli such as UV rays and dryness.

UV rays include the two types of UV-A and UV-B. The new product has enhanced the efficacy to protect against UV-A, which penetrates the deeper layer of skin causing loss of firmness and elasticity. The existing Sofina product is formulated with flake-shaped UV-protection fine particles. The broader surface of each particle enables more reflection of UV rays and ensures even blockage. The new technology introduced in Sofina Beauté Day Protector has succeeded in making the flake-shaped particles 20 percent thinner. As a result, it can easily coat every corner of the skin without leaving any gaps, effectively ensuring protection against UV-A.
