This international conference, organized by the International Association for Universal Design (Patron: His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito of Mikasa), marked the third year of the event and upheld the theme, "For the People and the Earth of Tomorrow 窶 Towards a Sustainable Co-existence." The conference aimed at realizing a better universal design (UD) society through the exchange of ideas and experience of participants from Japan and overseas.

At its booth, Kao presented concrete examples of how Kao incorporated elements of UD guidelines into its products, such as "understandability," "ease of use," and "security and safety." Kao has developed these products based on its belief that the pursuit of Yoki-Monozukuri for wholehearted satisfaction leads to good universal design.

On the first day of the conference, HIH Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, the Patron of the Association, paid a visit to the Kao booth, listening attentively as Kao staff explained the company's approach.

An interactive space was also set up at the booth to provide visitors with first-hand knowledge of Kao's efforts toward UD, and it enjoyed great popularity. Visitors gave many useful comments, such as "Attack Neo is light-weight, making shopping effortless. It's easy to hold." "I am impressed by the innovations in regard to details of the package." A British professor evaluated Kao's careful consideration to its products highly, in comparison with those of overseas manufacturers. The professor said he hoped to introduce Kao's UD initiatives in his class.

Along with the favorable comments, some visitors voiced expectations for further improvements in regard to the ease of refilling and distinction of products as a whole. Many suggested Kao should enhance public relations activity on its UD efforts.
